Preparations are now underway for Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council’s Civic Awards ceremony, and we can’t wait to celebrate this year’s community champions. A huge ‘thank you’ to those who have sent in their nomination forms, taking the time to consider and highlight those who have made a positive impact on our town this year.

The ceremony is taking place on Saturday, April 18th at St Peter’s Community Centre in the Old Town, starting at 4:30pm. Live music will be provided by The Royal British Legion Band, and the awards will be presented by Cllr Paul Wilson, Mayor of Bexhill-on-Sea.

Here is a reminder of the Civic Awards categories:-

The Freedom Award is given to an outstanding individual who has truly gone above and beyond for Bexhill. The candidate will have made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the administrative area known as Bexhill-on-Sea which could include: artistic and cultural endeavours, business, economic growth and charitable work, improvement to the built and natural environment, political activities, religious and spiritual life, or sports activities.

Individual Awards are given to members of the public who have demonstrated outstanding citizenship in the last year.

The Community Organisation of the Year Award is given to a group dedicated to making Bexhill-on-Sea a better place. The group will improve the lives of others by caring for them on a regular basis; or help to make Bexhill-on-Sea more environmentally friendly and better for nature.

The Garden Award is given to the person or household with the best front garden by an amateur gardener.

The Youth Award is given to an outstanding young person in the community.

The ceremony will be followed by our Annual Town Meeting. This statutory meeting is a great chance for residents to hear from Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council representatives, discuss local issues and get the latest and ongoing news about Bexhill. The Civic Awards ceremony and Annual Town Meeting are important points in the Council’s year, and we encourage as many residents as possible to attend for what promises to be a very special evening.
